Fight The Flu – Get Vaccinated!

Think you know everything there is to know about flu shots?

Let’s Debunk 3 Common Myths

1. The flu is not that serious, so I don’t need to get a flu shot.

The flu can be very serious and in some cases deadly. Protect yourself and your loved ones by getting a flu shot every year.

2. The flu vaccine could give me the flu.

The flu vaccine contains an inactivated virus that cannot give you the flu. You may experience mild side effects, which may last a day or two.

3. I had the vaccine and still got the flu, so the vaccine doesn’t work.

There are many different strains of the flu. If you received the vaccine and still got sick, the vaccine is more likely to prevent a more severe case of the flu.

Many Ways to Get the Flu Vaccine

You can go to a convenience care clinic, retail pharmacy or your doctor’s office. NOTE: To find an in-network provider, visit https://www.bcbsil.com/member or call 1-888-895-6981.

IMPORTANT

If you are enrolled in the DFIN medical plan, present your BCBSIL medical ID card when getting the flu shot. You may need to pay out-of-pocket for the cost of the flu vaccine if you use an out-of-network provider. To be reimbursed, complete this claim form and submit it along with your receipt to BCBSIL.

EVERYONE 6 months and older should get their flu shot. Visit www.cdc.gov/flu for more information.
